So, I have been sitting here and barely paying attention to all these "occupy" movements all over the place. Not really sure I understand what they want and am even less sure they know what they want. I know people are trying to liken this "movement" to that of the hippies in the 60s and 70s but I am not so sure I agree. Most of the people I have seen interviewed or who have something to say, don't really make much sense and don't seem to have a focus or a point. Granted, the big bad media is picking the worst of the bunch to highlight etc etc, but lets be honest, if this was the hippy movement it didn't matter which Tie-Dy wearing stoned kid you pulled outta the crowd he was preaching the "make love, not war" sentiment with all his heart.
Yes I understand there is this opinion that 1% of the population controls the worlds wealth, and the 99% are sick and tired of it. BUT what do you want to do about it? What do you want to change, and how do you want to go about doing it? One of the big problems for me is there seems to be no leadership, no one willing to pick up the torch and lead the people, organise the thoughts of the massive, and focus the groups will on a course of action. Until that happens, until someone can clearly step forward and represent the "Occupy" movement it will just come across as a bunch of lazy people who want to hang out in the park rather then go to work. I mean seriously, how am I supposed to take your claim that you can't find a job seriously when you are sitting in a park, playing your drums on a Wednesday morning. Or how do I really believe you are protesting capitalism, as you march with your Starbucks in one hand and you talk to your friends on your iPhone? How do I take you and your brother in protest seriously when it seems your protesting opposite things. He wants more jobs, birthed by capitalism and you are protesting against the evils of capitalism. See my problem?
That being said, I am in no way saying the world is not in need of a change, but I think the change has to come from a different place. I don't think we can change the systematic problems that exist in the world without attacking the problems that exist within us all. The problem I see is that we have stopped loving one another, taking us right back to the hippies again. They fought to make us realize how important love is and all these years later we have forgotten. We don't love one another, we don't even care for our neighbours let alone strangers. Instead of "Occupy Toronto" how about "Love Toronto" or "Love Wall St."
Lets as a society, find a way to care more for each other, to see the man across the street as a brother, the woman crossing the road as a sister and for them to see me in that same light. It does not have to be grand gestures, I don't want you to go out and hug every person you see and whisper sweet nothings in his/her ear. But when you are riding the bus, why not let that old man have the seat, or that pregnant lady or hell that person that just got on and looks like they have had a hard day. Maybe when you are driving you let the person merge into the lane without rushing to block them, I dunno little things like that. Just be nicer, just be friendlier, just be kinder. Try to shake the selfish shell we have wrapped ourselves in for so long, start seeing the people around us as extensions of ourselves.
Who knows, maybe if we "Love Toronto" we won't need to "Occupy Toronto" because harmony will exist throughout humanity. Sounds like a lofty goal, but as they say, a journey of miles begins with the first step.

Back Again
So this is my first post via my iPad 2 and just in case you didn't know I love this thing. If you are on the fence about getting one my suggestion is GET ONE!!!!
Anyways, on to the topic of discussion for the day the leaders debate that occurred earlier this evening. I must be honest I did miss most of it as we had some chores to take care of around the house. But what I did see was well sad! Gilles Duceppe once again shows he is the only one (maybe in the entire country) who really understands how the Canadian political system works. As a reminder, it is not like the American popularity contest, where you get to vote on which guy you think makes the best President and you get to vote for your House rep separately. In Canada, we have a system where the "leader" and his best sound bite don't matter. We are supposed to vote for the party (then by default the leader) who we feel best represents our individual status, opinions and morals, the party we feel that will push through policies and legislation that supports and/or represents those morals and values. To often we forget the importance of policies and legislation and focus in on the character or personality traits of individuals, not taking the time to hear the message. For example during tonight's debate, Harper made it clear that he doesn't care about the rules of Parliament because they are just "political games" and he also writes of debate with the opposition as "bickering"! I don't know about you but I am pretty sure that the rules of Parliament and debate are fundamental aspects of democracy.
It worries me how few people seem to care that Harper seems to see himself as bigger and more important then the democratic system we have put in place and has worked for us for years.
As Canadians we take for granted the ability to vote, the ability to have a say in the governments that run our country. We take for granted our voice! We take it so much for granted we continue to be uninformed, fail to do research and actually don't care about the politics, the parties and what they represent, the reasons behind the election or the issues, policies and legislation. We take most of our (mis)information from ads, soundbites, or rumors!
How sad is it that I had a conversation with a 43 year old friend of mine and another friend new to the country and he was telling our new friend that this election was dumb, that all these guys are the same so you might as well vote for Stephen Harper. I interjected and asked doesn't being in contempt of parliament worry you? His response, no all that means is the other 3 guys formed a coalition and voted against Harper. I reiterated that I was talking about being found in contempt of Parliament, and not a non-confidence vote to which he replied "Yea, same thing, it does matter either way". I have to tell you this scared me! How many people are misinformed, or not aware of what is happening around them?
At some point we have to see the value in the ability to vote. We have to see the power our voice carries. The part that scares me most is that we won't realize how important voting and our democratic system is until we lose it! And as alarmist as this sounds, Stephen Harper is just the guy to do it, to take away our voice and dismantle the democratic system that has brought us to this point.
Come on Canadians, come on my friends get informed, get active!

Been a while miss me? ....
Okay so you probably don't since no one reads this but whatever. I am writing today because I think things need to be discussed especially about the state of Canadian Politics currently. We have a government who has been found guilty of being in contempt of parliament meaning the government breached the parliamentary privileges of MPs by refusing to disclose enough details about corporate tax cuts and the costs of Conservative crime bills. So basically they found the government’s failure to produce documents constitute a contempt of Parliament and that “this failure impedes the House in the performance of its functions.” So what exactly does this mean?
In our parliament, to pass a policy or move a bill forward, all the details of that issue have to be openly debated by the MPs and then voted on. Usually (in the case of a majority) more than half the seats are taken up by one party so usually bills and policies pass. However, we have a minority government which means although one side has more then the other, neither side makes up half, so the party in power (or presenting the motion) needs to convince members of the other parties to vote in their favour. Now when it comes to the tax cuts, crime bill and purchasing of fighter jets the Tories were trying to get passed, they hid information (including actual cost information) from the rest of the parliment making it impossible for a debate to occur. Basically, a slap in the face of our democratic political system.
This is a big deal, and I am not sure how many people understand how big of a deal this really is. Allowing this type of disregard for our political system to be rewarded (ie allowing the PCs to stay in power)will open to door to fundamental shift in our system of politics. The democratic system that we all seem to adore (so much in fact that we send Canadian men and women overseas to fight those that oppose democracy) has certain checks and balances in it. It does not allow for a government to run in secret, or pass bills or move it's agenda forward without disclosing that agenda to the public and the rest of parliament. Stephen Harper does not respect his fact, in fact he and his cabinet have little respect for parliament or our system. I mean you have seen the campaign ads that are from the office of Stephen Harper, not the office of the Prime Minister. Let alone the fact, that he was running campaign ads before his government fell, before there was an election to campaign for, which means that the tax payers were paying for that ad, not the Tories.
I am getting long winded here, and I will follow this post up with more in the future and I know Tory supporters are gonna start blasting me, which is fine because I would love to open up the debate. The real point here is to pay attention, look, listen and read. Figure out what issues are important to you and your situation (Economic, familial, social provincial, federal) and find out where the Canadian Political parties stand on these issues. This will allow you to better understand what is going on in the country you live in. Saying "I don't understand politics" is not legitimate excuse, because not understanding politics has nothing to do with knowing what issues effect your life, and the lives of those around you.

Wedding and more Wedding stuff ... and a bike ride
So friday's wedding was quite awesome actually, Jess and Alex did a great job putting together a wedding that was a real statement to who they were as a couple, I enjoyed it. Factor in, it took place on Jessica's family farm which is AWESOME, I was playing with goats and sheep before the ceremony lol! They even had a deer!
The family drama with "that" side of course occured but quietly and behind my back (I do love how they fear me), but whatever it just goest to show how small minded and jealous they are. Mostly ignored them for most of the night, but enjoyed myself immensly. The desserts were absolutely CRAZY, think of a dessert, it was there! Although I stuffed my face with red velvet cupcakes (Sooooooooo goood!!!). Didn't stay to late, but had a great time!
Saturday got off to a fairly lazy start, tinkered with Erin's bike (filled air, changed her seat etc) then we went for about a 12K bike ride which was fun, then came home and relaxed before heading to the movies, and saw Eat, Pray, Love with my girl Julia Roberts. It was a good movie, and it made me SOOO Hungry LOL! The scenes in Italy were filled with such delectiable goodness (Obviously Italy was the EAT portion of the movie LOL). and then skipped into the theatre next door to watch The Other Guys. THE MOST RANDOM MOVIE EVER!! The entire movie was comprised of random occurances, it was so incredibly silly! I liked it and thought it was pretty funny but man was it random! "Gator, need his gat, Bitch!"
On Sunday, our day began early as we headed to NOTL to take a look at the bridal show being put on by Vintage Hotels, the group that owns the Pillar and the Post. So we were able to see P&P, The Queen's Landing and The Prince of Wales all dressed up for a wedding. This solidified our choice, P&P was easily the best of all the venues and made us even more excited about our wedding. It was the first time my folks had seen the venue and I think they liked it. I know I do!
Anyways that was pretty much the weekend in a nutshell and I am honestly kinda bored so I don't wanna keep typing so...

Trying to get better at this
OK OK, so I suck at blogging but I am trying to get better, here is proof I am doing a random entry about stuff. No theme or annoyance in my life I want to vent about. Just some updates about my life and the stuff I am doing LOL. Although really, who cares I am not even sure anyone reads this (Well, I think You{Shorty} and You{Jum-Jum} read it). But now I am just rambling. LOL
Hmm, I wonder if I should start adding pictures from Twitter etc to this if I am going to do random updates and such.
Anyways, on deck this week is a wedding that should be interesting on many many levels. This will be the first opportunity for me to see the folks that caused the big scene at my grandmother's funeral. I am gonna be the bigger person here and keep my mouth shut and keep my distance and if something starts to pop off, quietly make my exit withoug causing a scene. Yes I know not making a scene is not my specialty but I am going to attempt it. Besides, Alex and Jessica didn't do anything wrong to me or my family so I should work as hard as possible to not let some foolishness destroy thier day. Outside of that I am actually looking forward to it, Alex's new bride's family have a farm (where they are getting married) which will be cool so I am excited to check it out and see the barn and all the animals because we all know I am nothing if not a Country Boy LOL!!!
Outside of that a pretty quiet week, back to coaching football, so that is exciting I am with the Mississauga Warriors which is where I think I want to stay, Shorty just let me know he has a couple buddies who might be interested in coaching and we can use a few guys to round of the staff (So if you are reading this call them up, NOW if you haven't come back and finish reading, I am almost done anyways). Getting the lower tier team, (white) which means the red (higher) tier gets first pick of the players. HOWEVER, we are not just gonna get scraps because the Warriors believe in winning so they want to give us a chance to be successful, hopefully a few more players sign up though that would be good!

The Shack - Religious Contemplation
I have always struggled to understand the idea of God the Trinity, God is God, God is Jesus and God is the Holy Spirit, somehow these three things come together to form God, sort of like Vultron and the 5 Lions or the Power Rangers and their Zords forming the MegaZord! For years I battled with the idea of who was Jesus talking to in the Garden of Gethsemane. I have fought and argued and battled with an incredible number of people, priests, reverends, pastors, scholars etc about the idea of God and Jesus being the same. Then I read one of the best books I have ever read it is called The Shack by WM. Paul Young in which the main character speaks to God, and asks about how Jesus was both man and God and it explains in as follows.
A bird, whose nature is to fly, that chooses to walk and stay grounded does not stop being a bird, but it does change his experience of life significantly. When God, chose to will Himself into the human experience as the Son of God, He became fully human. He then chose to embrace all the limitation that this entailed, and although He was always present in the created world He was now flesh and blood. So although He was totally God, Jesus was totally human and lived as a human would. So, although Jesus never lost the ability to fly, He made the conscious decision in each and every moment He lived to stay grounded. Hence, Immanuel, meaning God is with you!
The miracles and healing only further Jesus’ humanity as He never drew on his Godliness to perform the miracles but drew from His relationship with and in God, a relationship He gave Himself fully to. Fully and completely trusting His life to the Lord, fully believing in God’s love and goodness with no regard to what other people thought or what the repercussions were. So, when Jesus healed the blind, He did so with all the limits of a human being who fully trusted in God to work through Him. Jesus a part of God, limited, by choice, to the restraints of man who allowed His relationship with God; so pure, so open, so built on trust, that the power of God flowed right through Him.
“A bird is defined not by being grounded but by his ability to fly. Remember this, humans are defined not by their limitations but by the intentions I have for them; not by what they seem to be, but by everything it means to be created in My image” (Young, 102)
The book goes on to explain, God is not just 3 faces of the same being like a man who is a son, a father, and a husband; which is what I have tended to believe most of my life when trying to understand this whole Trinity thing, but rather one God and three persons and each of those three being fully and entirely one! As we are made in God’s image, for us to experience love and relationships God must be love and relationship. God in essence then is the perfect unity of love and relationship as the three “parts”, God (the Father), Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are the combined unity of the relationship between Them.
“You do understand that unless I had an object to love – or, more accurately, some to love – then I would not be capable of love at all? You would have a god who could not love. Or maybe worse, you would have a god who, when he chose, could love only as a limitation of his nature. That kind of god could possibly act without love and that would be a disaster. And that is surely not me. The God who is – The I am who I am – cannot act apart from love!” (Young, 104)
WOW! What a whole new perspective, a perspective I have waited 30 years to hear. God enabled the existence of the 3 in order to allow us the ability to love, to build relationships. Relationships, in fact, so perfect that pieces can actually become one. Honestly, I have not ever been so fully satisfied with an explanation of God, Jesus and the idea of the Trinity. I mean I always knew that at some point there was an aspect of faith that needed to play a role in the whole thing and I assumed that if I wanted to be a Christian at some level I would have to just not try to analyze it, that things exist that my brain can’t comprehend. But, this not only do I comprehend I can accept and build my faith on it. And anytime you are given something to strengthen the foundation of your faith it really is something to be treasured.
I am gonna tell you that you should read this book, even if you are not a Christian or maybe you don’t believe in God or anything like that, heck maybe you are not even much of a reader but put the effort in and even if you just enjoy the story for the great piece of writing it is I suggest you read it.

And that is surely not me. The God who is – The I am who I am – cannot act apart from love!” (Young, 104)
WOW! What a whole new perspective, a perspective I have waited 30 years to hear. God enabled the existence of the 3 in order to allow us the ability to love, to build relationships. Relationships, in fact, so perfect that pieces can actually become one. Honestly, I have not ever been so fully satisfied with an explanation of God, Jesus and the idea of the Trinity. I mean I always knew that at some point there was an aspect of faith that needed to play a role in the whole thing and I assumed that if I wanted to be a Christian at some level I would have to just not try to analyze it, that things exist that my brain can’t comprehend. But, this not only do I comprehend I can accept and build my faith on it. And anytime you are given something to strengthen the foundation of your faith it really is something to be treasured.
I am gonna tell you that you should read this book, even if you are not a Christian or maybe you don’t believe in God or anything like that, heck maybe you are not even much of a reader but put the effort in and even if you just enjoy the story for the great piece of writing it is I suggest you read it.
