Religious Freedom VS Public Safety

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/crime/article/791293--brampton-kirpan-attack-renews-debate-over-sikh-daggers?bn=1

So for a long time I have agreed that Sikhs had a right to carry the ceremonial dagger but it is getting to the point where I am seriously reconsidering my opinion. Now, the Kirpan is symbolic weapon in the fight against evil, and a reminder of thier faith. In my opinion very similar to the Christian symbol of the Crucifix

Here is the thing, if this dagger is ment to be a symbol of thier faith and should not be considered a weapon by people, then why have the ability to draw it from the sheath? You can have the daggers welded into place so it can not be withdrawn in any circumstance. This makes sense, well much more sense then a 13 year old carrying an 8 inch dagger on his waist.
Beyond that, why not, if it truely is a symbol and not an actual weapon, have it reduced in size to something that can be worn around the neck on a chain, like the Christian symbol of the Crucifix?
Regardless, I personally am not comfortable with the idea of my child (which I do not have yet, but none the less) going to school with a 13 year old who carries an 8 inch dagger everywhere he goes. Not because I am scared the child will use it on mine but because in reality accidents do happen, and because which 13 year old is responsible enough to carry a weapon, there is a reason we dont let children drive before 16, hell we don't let them vote til 18. I mean the pen might be mightier then the sword; but lets be real folks, a dagger is a much deadlier weapon then a ballot.
Peace, I'm outta here!

Welcome ....

I don't know why I decided to get on this whole blogging thing but I guess it is a nice idea to write down one's thoughts and ideas and let them escape into the world. No better way to unburden yourself then by putting pen to pad or in this case fingers to keys, hence the title of my blog.
I might link some of my "note" from facebook here just so they are all linked together because I do enjoy looking back on thoughts and ideas I have held in the past.
I am kind of excited to be starting this blog and have a formal place to write down things that enter the complex enviroment that is my mind.
Well, it is time for lunch so maybe I will have to express my thoughts on this Kirpan issue in Brampton a little later.

Thanks for reading.

One love!
